Sweetheart Ride 2008 @ lee State Natural Area
.
Monsters, Monsters and More Monsters! And who would have ever guessed they come in just about all of the
primary colors. Had we made a film it would probly been called “Crouching horse, flying woman". However we were
blessed by wonderful weather and safety. Thirteen of us gathered at Lee State Park for the Sweetheart ride on
February 16th.. We began with lunch - by the way never let Lori or Margie offer to make you sandwiches, hard
salami and butter???-  Mike and Peggy brought several new riders and a few we have met before, Lori's sister
Karin came too. After we ate and saddled up Larry prayed and we started out. The walking horses with Peggy's
little black mare led the pack. After catching up on the “who and what” we came up on the camp of the "monsters".
Many tents polka dotted the ground of the young men who owned the "monsters".  We pressed on only to meet
them face to face, that's when the film title came to mind. About 50 yards up loop road Jericho spotted the men
loading the "monsters” aka canoes.  Peggy pressed on with Cocoa, CD and Jericho reluctantly following. As we
came beside the truck one of the LARGE blue ones came up out of the river and straight toward us. CD decided he
wanted no part of this and so the title. He crouched down, did a 180' and had Jericho and I not been in his way he
probably would have been in Kalamazoo by now.  Karin's eyes were as big as his, but everyone remained calm - I
use that term loosely- and we had a story to tell. We would have warned Mike and the rest of the group but Peggy
did not know how to use her warlike talkie, enough said.  We arrived back at camp to enjoy my birthday cake that
Lori had made and wait on the others to see how they faired the "monsters".  It was a nice end to a fantastic ride.
Praise the Lord for His goodness to us everyday.  PS: candy and stuffed animals along with a grocery gift
certificate was collected for Keith DuBose and his family and was delivered this week
