It's Not Easy Being The Only One in Camp with a Pocket Knife....
And so it goes. A group of us left South Carolina early Tuesday morning,
June 23, 2009 headed for Blowing Rock, North Carolina where no one had
broke a sweat yet this year. Yeah, it was cool. Except for an overheated
transmission on one of the trucks, the trip was fairly uneventful.
Arrived mid-day, setup camp, and then went for an afternoon ride.
"Does anyone have a knife?"

Wednesday was another beautiful day as was every day for the rest of
the week. Not a bit of rain! Made 2 trips to the Tower and another 2 to
Rich Mountain along with every other trail. Went into Blowing Rock for
dinner, ice cream and shopping.  Did the tourist thing and bought
tee-shirts and stuff to bring back. Another day done.
“Larry, can I borrow your knife?"

Rode the trails at least once every day and twice on Sunday. Saw lots of
wildlife like deer, rabbits, a frog, and even a parrot. (You had to be
there.) A couple of cook-outs around the trailers and other meals in
Boone and Blowing Rock. Shopped at Mast General Store (all 3 of them)
along with other stops along the way. Several more days under our belts.
"Knife for bailing twine, please."

Saturday, we all headed to the Bollick Traditions festival. There was
pottery, old engines, pickin', along with good eats. Went back to camp
for an afternoon ride. The horses behaved pretty good for the most part.
A buggy driver with a whip spooked Lori's horse and off she went.
Fortunately, God planted a tree right where she landed, so she didn't
roll far. Bobby had his share of truck problems but got it back on the
road in time for the trip home.
"Can I borrow your knife one more time?"

Everyone made it home safely -- both rider and horses. God blessed us
with the most beautiful weather in all the times we have been going
there. Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve was also the least crowded that
we have seen in several years. Economy must have hit some folks pretty
hard. Oh, well. Time to start saving again for next year. I think I will start
saving for another knife -- mine is all worn out.

Trail Ride to benefit St Judes Childrens Hospital
                 September 12, 2009

Our St. Jude ride was a big success. We had over forty riders
and some traveled a great distance to join us for this benefit
ride. We raised $2065.00 - GOD IS GOOD! Thank everyone
for all their hard work. It may take 4-5 weeks before gifts are
ordered so please be patient. If you have any questions feel
free to call me at 499-7640.  Be thinking about next year, Yes,
we get to do it all over again, see ya all soon ,        Pam
   March Ride at "Our Barn"
 March 20, 2010

Howdy All, March 20th sure was a beautiful day as six old
members and several new members hit the trails at "OUR
BARN". Most on horses, but Tom also drove his Mule
powered wagon on a slightly different route. I'm guessing the
total count to be around 25 or so. The trails were wide and
had plenty of up and down slopes with small creeks and
streams to cross.
There was also at least one good sandy spot; you'll have to
ask Terri about that though. Charity was Our BARN Summer
Camp Scholarship" fund.
There was $120.00 collected in our time slot from about 11:
30 until about 3:00. The total for the day was over $400.00 as
there was another group ride after ours. Lori also gave out
tickets for door prizes, be sure and check out Terri's new bag.
Thanks to Tom and Lori for having us out and for letting us
plant a small seed in the summer camp ministry at "OUR
BARN" where we pray God's kingdom will reap the harvest.
See ya on the trail,
Johnny and Terri
