GAF TRAIL RIDES
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP

Devonshire Trail Ride & Cookout
April 19, 2008
Seventeen folks arrived at Devonshire on Saturday,
April 19, 2008 to enjoy the trails of Devonshire.
The ministry of the month was “Lee County
Cooperative Ministry” This group is organized,
funded and staffed by members of local churches.
Spiritual guidance as well as furniture, clothing and
food items are distributed to all who inquire. Many
canned food items were brought to the trail ride to
be donated to this worthy cause. I’m sure God will
bless and multiply these gifts. As everyone tacked
their horses we counted twelve riders and three of
those were children that rode their own horses.
Wow, what fun to see the world through the eyes of
little ones. Not all of us can say we rode our own
horse on a trail ride when we were three or four
years old. Usually we have every speed available –
running, gaiting, trotting, and walking to s-l-o-w
riders in our membership, each has their own pace
they like but… We rode out in a close knit group
that stayed together for the entire ride, a very
unusual occurrence with our group at GAF. We
rode the trails for about two hours taking a different
route back to keep everyone confused. After
everyone took care of their horses and settled them
in, it was time for us to eat. Just as we started we
were treated to drops of rain and we dashed
indoors. We heaped our plates, grabbed our drinks
and the rain stopped. So we headed back to the
picnic tables to sit and enjoy talking with our
friends. Oh, oh another shower of rain but we just
kept talking and eating right through it. Linda
provided dessert and instructed us in the special
way we needed to eat this dessert. She had, “Sour
Cream Pound Cake, strawberries, sour cream and
brown sugar”. Such an odd combination but so
good when eaten together, you’ll have to ask her
about it! Yum! The evening ended with everyone
going back to their horse trailers full, smiling,
laughing and just enjoying the world, people and
the gifts God has given us. God is good. “Every
good thing given and every perfect gift is from
above, coming down from the Father of lights, with
whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP
“SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND”
GREAT ADVENTURE FELLOWSHIP had their annual
“Seek and Ye Shall Find” trail ride October 13, 2007
at Lee State Park. What a marvelous weekend for
camping and riding horses it turned out to be! The
Lord was with us all weekend, bringing beautiful
weather, safe riding and positive opportunities to meet
new friends and refresh prior friendships. Praise the
Lord. Linda Turner and Margie Johnson did a great
job with planning the trail for “Seek and Ye Shall Find”
ride on Saturday. It was obvious a lot of thought and
work went into just what we were to seek and find and
then getting it all in place. I, for one, am grateful we
did not have to bring that “crown of thorns” back,
OUCH! The biblical clues were quite fitting and fairly
easy to figure out – except for those silly, colorful
feathers. Never could figure out where they fit in - but
they sure were pretty. Maybe next year we’ll get to
see the birds that lost them. The evening festivities
were wonderful. So much great food! Our good Lord
sure did bless GAF with some great cooks. Big thanks
to all who provided the Chili, cornbread, dips, desserts
and sooo much more! After supper, while everyone
“rolled around the campfire (from all the good eating)
the camp fire music by ‘our own’, Robert and Debbi,
was relaxing and refreshing. So glad they share their
talents with us. Then it was time for door prizes. Pam
Drum and Kathy Cole did a wonderful job of getting
some great door prizes and donations to give away.
“Mrs. President” – Terry Stokes, made a beautiful
basket of goodies to give away. It’s possible to
remember who donated just what with so much to go
around. A special thanks to Pam and Kathy for their
thoughtfulness and hard work. I do seem to
remember one name that was drawn only to be
declared ineligible! Who was Buddy Nichols? Oh
yeah, I think he is the extra friendly camp greeter and
clean up ‘dog’ who works hard at making sure there
are no scraps left laying around. All in all, it was a
wonderful weekend. Big thanks to all the GAF family
who worked so hard to help us all have a great time all
weekend. God bless ya’ll and hope to see everyone
again next year!! Contributed by Sherry Nichols
